Twice in a Century, Germany has tried to create a German-dominated Super State across Europe. The last time they tried it, 70 years or so ago, genocide was the order of the day for anybody that 'didn't fit'. If we want to keep control of our own destiny, then we must not just hand over control of our lands and traditions to some faceless bureaucrats in Europe following Germany like sheep, then a vote for BREXIT will secure our independence, and start to put the GREAT back into Great Britain. Last week, my daily keep fit routine of regular power walking ended up with me walking down one of the last crumbling WW2 concrete runways of the US Airforce's 379th Bomb Group, based at Kimbolton. They flew more sorties out of the UK than any other Bomb Group in the Eighth Air Force and dropped a greater bomb tonnage than any other Group. But what was it all for? Why did the Unites States feel so strongly about the threat posed by Germany to the freedom of Europe - and the whole free world - that they poured millions of dollars, and the lives of countless young air force people, into becoming worthy allies with us? Don't get me wrong, contrary to popular opinion, the US did not win WW2 single-handedly, but they proudly took their place alongside the Allied powers in a conflict that cost over 60 million lives (about 3% of the then world population). Britain stood alone against the German threat in 1939-41 before the USA came in with us, and in that time, our Royal Air Force, with its tiny band of aircrew, took on the mighty Luftwaffe, and with massive losses, kept an invasion at bay. Our Army and Navy also fought defiantly against the threat to our Nation, our tradition, our homes, and thousands of families lost loved ones. People not involved directly in the Armed Forces, also underwent, for nearly 6 years, tremendous threats from air-raids, personal losses of belongings and family members, and a constant fear of invasion. Our Queen's family, like everyone else in the United Kingdom, had to put up with air raids, and many Royals served on the front line. Was this all just a waste of time, money, effort and tears? Since Queen Elisabeth came to the throne in 1952, she has worked tirelessly for her People, dedicating her whole life to upholding the vast unique array of wealth we have in our tradition and our heritage. She also took on the task of shaping our old Imperial Empire into one of the most powerful and widespread World Trading Association - the Commonwealth. This voluntary group of countries, whose main link is Queen Elizabeth, comprises some 53 countries, across all six of the inhabited continents. The members have a combined population of 2.1 billion people, almost a third of the world population, of which 1.26 billion live in India and 94% live in Asia and Africa combined. By contrast, the European Union consists today of just 28 countries, with another five lined up to join shortly. Unlike the President of the USA, the Queen will take no part in the debate over Europe, as she always follows the correct protocol. With some 60 years on the throne of England, The Queen has met just about every Statesman (and Stateswoman) and politician there has been over this time, and is respected universally around the world for that. However, for one who has dedicated most of her 90 years to helping her subjects, even those who thought she was 'too wealthy' to understand the need of the 'common man', the thought of her being relegated to the same level of importance as every other European Royal Family, is just not wort contemplating.
